Women in academia: breaking the glass ceiling or rebuilding the house?

Webinar hosted by the European University Association (EUA)

Mar 03, 2022 14:00 (CEST)

In advance of International Women's Day on 08. March 2022, the EUA hosted a webinar focusing on the dynamic role that women are increasingly playing in the leadership of higher education institutions. The webinar presented the latest statistics on female leadership across EUA members, providing participants an opportunity to compare the findings to the realities they encounter at home. This webinar offered a discussion on the state of play in Europe, as well as inspiring best practices in the field. It addressed questions such as:

  1. Is gender parity now a reality in academia?
  2. Are more women from all backgrounds taking on leadership positions in academia?
  3. How can academia benefit from this cultural change?

Speakers included experts from various organisations in Europe, including our very own Project Manager, Kathrin Müller from the Centre for Higher Education (CHE) in Germany. Ms. Müller’s presentation focused on the ‘Gender (im)balance in higher education: U-Multirank’s Gender Monitor’. This presentation looked at the share of women in the higher education career, the share of female rectors assessed on the country level, as well as the make-up by study subjects.
