U-Multirank's unique 'Sunburst chart' gives an illustration of a university's performance profile across the five U-Multirank dimensions. These are indicated in different colours. For instance, the teaching and learning dimension is symbolised by the colour green. Each 'sunray' represents one of the thirty plus U-Multirank indicators. The longer the ray, the better the performance of an institution on the selected indicator: a full-length ray stands for 'top group' performance, whereas a short ray means 'weak' performance. A missing sunray indicates that the specific data indicator is not available. An institution's performance in an indicator can be identified by moving the cursor over the rays. A key guard for the sunburst chart is provided here .

The course begins by covering biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics and computing broadly. In Year 2 students develop a deeper understanding of genetics, biochemistry of the cell and microbiology, as well as pharmacology and instrumentation. In the first semester of Year 3 practical skills and techniques are gained around the basis for cell and gene technologies. These include gene cloning and bioinformatics - the application of computing in genetic analysis. Students then have the opportunity to work in industry through a paid internship.

Being responsive to the needs of people, organisations, economies and societies is at the heart of all of our programmes, and it gives us a momentum not readily achieved by older institutions. We develop our students’ capability to bring sustainable value to their organisations and to society at large, to confidently manage and lead in environments that are not predictable, and to prepare them for diverse, dynamic career paths over their lifetimes. The quality of our teaching, our small class sizes, and our high levels of industry engagement make us stand out, and have been recognized by AACSB

The course starts common with other Science courses. In Year Two, the mainstream chemistry lectures and laboratories are developed in parallel with relevant topics in physics, mathematics, computing and biochemistry. An integral part of third year is INTRA, which ensures you gain first-hand experience in the applications of chemistry during a period of industrial placement. Final year specialises on real life problem solving techniques.

The Common Entry structure allows students to make an informed decision about which stream to specialise in after first studying fundamental courses such as analysis, algebra and probability, together with computing and statistics. At the end of Year Two, students on this Common Entry programme enter one of two courses—there are a limited number of places in the third year of the BSc in Actuarial Mathematics, with entry based on a student’s performance in Years One and Two.
