U-Multirank's unique 'Sunburst chart' gives an illustration of a university's performance profile across the five U-Multirank dimensions. These are indicated in different colours. For instance, the teaching and learning dimension is symbolised by the colour green. Each 'sunray' represents one of the thirty plus U-Multirank indicators. The longer the ray, the better the performance of an institution on the selected indicator: a full-length ray stands for 'top group' performance, whereas a short ray means 'weak' performance. A missing sunray indicates that the specific data indicator is not available. An institution's performance in an indicator can be identified by moving the cursor over the rays. A key guard for the sunburst chart is provided here .

In-depth specialisation is possible within a wide range comprising astrophysics and astroparticle physics, condensed matter physics, optical sciences, physics in life sciences, or theoretical physics. With a broad range of lab courses the experimental skills are trained. Alternatively, computer "experiments" are offered for theory-oriented students. The Master's course concludes with a 1-year research phase, part of which encompasses writing the Master's thesis.

The Chemistry degree programme in Erlangen is characterised by high academic demands and the close supervision of students. This applies to both the personal contact between teaching staff and students as well as the support by student tutors and the individual guidance our students receive from the study coordinator, the dean of studies and the Student Service Centre. Carefully coordinated and timed semester curricula are offered for the extensive number of courses. Examination dates are coordinated with each other.

The Bachelor's study course combines mandatory elements such as courses in mathmatics (for physicists), in experimental and theoretical physics, and lab courses, with a broad spectrum of elective courses, both in physics and in subjects other than physics. In the first two semesters, a course in one of astronomy, chemistry, computerscience, physical chemistry, or material sciences must be chosen. The lab courses cover modern electronics and lab projects in small tutorial groups. The Bachelor's course concludes with a 3-month research project.
