To enhance the internationalisation, the complete 5th semester is taught in English. The University cooperates with multiple universities around the globe, including possibility for a double degree. Students in higher semesters can choose from a range of elective courses, such as more mathematics courses, entrepreneurship and language courses. Die Inhalte sind so gewählt, dass viel Wissen über Soft- und Hardware vermittelt werden, aber auch fahrzeugtechnische Grundlagen und Fahrphysik. Speziell für die Entwicklung des autonomen Fahrens und der Assistenzsysteme sind Kenntnisse aus beiden Bereichen unbedingt erforderlich. Die abschließende Praxisphase und Bachelorarbeit wird in der Regel in einem Unternehmen absolviert.

Der Masterstudiengang bietet die Möglichkeit, sich auf vertiefende und wissenschaftliche Art und Weise mit aktuellen Themen wie Digitalisierung, Internet of Things, Smart Grids und Datensicherheit zu befassen. Zusätzlich sind übergreifende Fächer wie Technik und Gesellschaft, Unternehmensführung und Informationsrecht Teil des Curriculums. Veranstaltungen werden in Projektform angeboten. Hier können Studierende im Team an interessanten Aufgaben arbeiten, die oftmals aus dem Bereich der Forschungs- und Entwicklungsaktivitäten des Fachbereichs stammen. Der Masterstudiengang Photonik unterscheidet sich von ähnlichen Studiengängen an anderen FHs und Universitäten dadurch, dass die optischen Technologien in großer Breite und Tiefe behandelt werden. Dies ist möglich, weil die Lehrenden aus den drei Fachbereichen Physikingenieurwesen, Chemieingenieurwesen und Elektrotechnik/Informatik kommen. Eine weitere Besonderheit besteht darin, dass es in Forschungsprojekten viele enge Kooperationen mit der Industrie, also den späteren Arbeitgebern der Studierenden gibt.

Es wird sehr viel Wert auf eine dialogorientierte Lehre gelegt. Deshalb sind die Semesterstärken auf unter 50 Studierende beschränkt. In den ersten Semestern werden Tutorien angeboten. Insbesondere ab dem 2. Semester werden zu den Vorlesungen begleitende Labore und Projekte angeboten, um die Studierenden frühzeitig auf ihr Industrieleben vorzubereiten. Ebenso wird von Anfang an am Industriestandard orientierte Software verwendet. Ein interdisziplinäres Projekt, das über das ganze letzte Theoriesemester andauert, vermittelt Teamkompetenz, Projektmanagement- und Präsentationskompetenz.

Die Lehre nimmt in der Fakultät einen sehr hohen Stellenwert ein. Der größte Teil der Veranstaltungen wird von hauptamtlich Lehrenden angeboten. Ergänzt werden diese von Lehrbeauftragten aus der Industrie, die Berücksichtigung aktueller Fragestellung gewährleisten. Wichtiger Bestandteil der Lehre sind auch die Laborübungen, die in sehr gut ausgestatteten Laboren stattfinden. Alle Lehrveranstaltungen werden durch die Studierenden evaluiert. Applied Computer Science is also needed in the areas of advanced software engineering, AI and security engineering. It offers three areas of specialisation/elective modules: Autonomous systems (Autonome Systeme), Data Science, IT Security. A specialisation is optional. The curriculum is very research oriented (two large research projects and a publication in addition to the Master thesis). This qualifies students to undertake development work, to take on management functions in industrial companies and also qualifies students to go on to do their doctorate and ultimately to work in research.

The teaching & learning profile is a sound mixture of lectures, exercises & tutorials as well as laboratory exercises and student projects in teams to gain practical experience. The study matter is conveyed mostly in lectures in presence but an increasing part is also provided through online lectures and blended learning approaches. This provides higher flexibilities for the students, as the timetable for each semester is divided in presence and online days. The complete 5th semester is taught in English to prepare the students for the globalized markets.
