A major strength of the department is the excellent supervision of students due to the comparatively small ratio of students to professors in chemistry. In addition to the usual student counseling, confidential counseling is offered by liaison officers, which mediate confidentially in situations of conflict and support the students.

The working groups in the department are involved in national and international research projects. Working groups in the Cµ research centre at the University of Siegen are also collaborating: The Cµ investigates how chemical processes occur on microscopic and nanoscopic length scales and at interfaces. Likewise, novel materials, methods and systems for micro- and nanochemistry are developed and this knowledge is used to design novel sensory interfaces and to develop new diagnostic approaches, e.g. for the detection of bacterial and fungal contaminations.

Das Department Elektrotechnik und Informatik zeichnet sich in der Lehre durch ein exzellentes Betreuungsverhältnis aus, wodurch insbesondere kleine Übungs- und Laborgruppen ermöglicht werden. Dadurch ist ein besonders effektives und effizientes Lernen möglich. Darüber hinaus wird von den Lehrenden der persönliche Kontakt zu den Studierenden gesucht und aufrecht erhalten. Die Kombination Elektrotechnik und Informatik ermöglicht interdisziplinäre Programme, Module, Praktika und Abschlussarbeiten an der Schnittstelle beider Disziplinen und bereitet damit optimal auf das spätere Berufsleben vor.

It features small classroom settings, is built upon the recommendations of the German Chemical Society, and fully accredited. While the program consists of some mandatory modules, a lot of elective courses are available early on including analytical, building, inorganic, macromolecular, organic, physical, and theoretical chemistry. In addition, students can specialize in theme-based modules that lead to specializations in "Materials and Interfaces", "Light and Matter", or "Molecular Sciences".

So kann eine breitere Basis gelegt werden und eine spätere Spezialisierung ist noch gut möglich.
