How study abroad works: possibilities to live in another country during your education

First thing that comes to mind when you talk about studying abroad is going with an institution like a university or college. But in order for you to study abroad, you do not have to go through your university or college, there is also the possibility to study abroad through a third part provider – like an agency. Most third party providers work alone and support their travellers with everything that is required, but there are also providers who have partnerships with specific universities, or based on locations – like the US. The advantage of these providers is that every step of the journey is fully planned, like flight, food and housing making the process much easier for the student and even parents.  On the downside: the trip is planned from start to finish, so there can be little room left for adjustments, or time left to explore the country on your own terms.

The best and most reliable way to study abroad is through a partnership of your university. There is often the possibility to choose between fall and spring semester and you can choose what is best for your schedule. Also, university programmes guarantee support and transferrable credits that will not be questioned.

If you are interested in mainly improving your language skills, then a language programme abroad is most likely best. Through a language programme you’ll be focused on your main objective, to learn proper writing, dialects, grammar and even local phrases of the language. This approach may help those looking to be immersed and have a language focused experience. There is a huge variety of language schools, so any language is possible to learn.
