U-Multirank's unique 'Sunburst chart' gives an illustration of a university's performance profile across the five U-Multirank dimensions. These are indicated in different colours. For instance, the teaching and learning dimension is symbolised by the colour green. Each 'sunray' represents one of the thirty plus U-Multirank indicators. The longer the ray, the better the performance of an institution on the selected indicator: a full-length ray stands for 'top group' performance, whereas a short ray means 'weak' performance. A missing sunray indicates that the specific data indicator is not available. An institution's performance in an indicator can be identified by moving the cursor over the rays. A key guard for the sunburst chart is provided here .

Via a motivating curriculum, students acquire a broad scientific knowledge, from the molecules within the cells to organisms in their environment and communities. The practical work is gradually more linked to the research labs with the advancement of studies. Most importantly, students also develop an analytical and critical mind as well as the abilities to learn independently, to work in a team and to communicate in multiple languages, so as to more fully convey the importance of biology in our society. Our graduates are well prepared for careers in numerous areas of life sciences.

The Faculty of Biology and Medicine is a unique setup in Europe with an interdisciplinary approach. An understanding of the structural, molecular and genetic mechanisms in living organisms allow us to go straight to the source of it all and studying stem cells in plants, animals and humans. An understanding of all aspects of biological systems, from organization and evolution to adaptation and intra and interspecific communication is also one of our speciality. Most of the research projects are using cutting-edge technology in imaging, genomics and proteomics.

The Bachelor of Sciences in Biology give a large vision from the various fields of Biology and from the different level organizations of the living from molecules to ecosystems. Many courses are completed with practical work which is gradually more linked to the research labs with the advancement of studies. An offer of optional courses and modules allows various and detailed pathways. Such a Bachelor offers a solid and large base in Biology. This permit to the students to have access to a broad choice of Masters which are specialized in the Life Sciences.

This Master is intended for students who are interested in biological research in the medical field. The first semester is dedicated to give students an in-depth knowledge of basic cellular functions, systems that transmit signals inside and among cells, human biology, and the normal and pathological functioning of the most important systems of the human organism. The second semester is dedicated to specialisation and students can choose a study path from among the three options available: Immunology and Cancer, Neurosciences, and Pharmacology and Toxicology.

The goal of the Master is to explore life through experimental and computational approaches. With specialized lectures exploring micro-organisms, plants, animals and humans, students can compose their own curriculum of choice: Bioinformatics, Microbiology, Integrative Biology. A practical course allowing students to sequence and analyse the genome of a micro-organism, applying the most recent sequencing and computational techniques is performed. To master oral and written scientific communication, students learn how to write a scientific review and fellowship application.

This Master develops knowledge in ecology, evolutionary biology and conservation biology, with courses ranging from evolutionary genetics, phylogeography, social behavior and interspecific interactions, applied ecology, conservation biology. Some relevant technical and quantitative skills are fostered through courses in statistics, computer-assisted cartography, spatial modeling, molecular methods, scientific writing. Several field courses prepare students for research in the field. Three specializations provide links to economics, geosciences, computational biology.

Our mission, in part, consists of “using research to train our students to be capable and responsible leaders and entrepreneurs […]”. The competencies we aim to develop are: analytical skills, leadership qualities, international perspective, understanding of profitable and sustainable businesses practices and an entrepreneurial mindset. We engage various teaching methods: lectures, case studies, and seminars, complemented by exercise sessions, hands-on workshops, and project work. Faculty use teaching methods that achieve the best fit between course content, student cohort, and teaching style.

The Master of Science in Information Systems (IS) provides students with cutting-edge skills in new information and communication technologies (NICTs). Our program covers both IS management and engineering, and hence trains professionals capable of designing, managing, implementing and evaluating IT services and applications. The PhD program offers a tailor-made learning journey aiming at the full expression of the candidate’s potential. Particular attention is paid to critical thinking, which is assessed by a dedicated exam. Both programs are strongly practice-oriented.

Our Department of IS runs research combining complementary fields and approaches. As a result, our research covers several fields around IS Management (digital innovation and strategy, project management, architecture and IS evolution), Security (privacy and cybersecurity), Data (data management, data mining and machine learning), Distributed Object Programming, Human Computer Interaction and Neural Science. The multidisciplinary approach stems from the rich composition of the Department, whose research is also strongly connected to the corporate world.

1st semester encompass a block-week of direct contact between students and IT professionals from local companies where students teams resolve challenges proposed by companies. Results are evaluated and awarded by a club of CIO's (called the Digital Circle). This mandatory activity gives several opportunities to students to develop their professional network and to valuate their skills and capabilities for finding further internships opportunities.

The Master of Science in Biogeosciences is the result of the integration of two fields of natural sciences: biology and geology. It reflects the emergence of new fields of research in the many areas of contact between these two disciplines. The objective is to train students in the field of integrated natural sciences or Biogeosciences. HEC Lausanne offers a complete sequence of programs in economics: a three-year Bachelor program, a two-year Masters and a four-to-five year PhD program. Bachelor courses are given in French; Masters and PhD programs are taught entirely in English. Our philosophy is "research-led teaching". Hence, we aim to teach state-of-the art scientific methods to equip our graduates with the necessary skills for exploring fundamental economic questions faced by contemporary society. We attach equal importance to formal theoretical modeling and to empirical analysis guided by the rigors of econometrics.

The course differs from the traditional academic approaches to this subject and address politics in its various dimensions - local, national, international, economic, social, and civic - but without losing touch with the reality of the contemporary world. This practical approach helps to highlight the “multi-professional” and innovative dimension of the training offered to students. It is unusual in offering a programme of study that is both specialised and can be tailored to your interests, as well as using a range of innovative teaching formats.

The increasing complexity of the tasks fulfilled by the State and the manner in which it carries them out require a new understanding of public services and a thorough modernization of public administrations. The Swiss Graduate school of public administration aims to provide future decision-makers with broad, interdisciplinary knowledge and enable them to understand and resolve managerial, economic, political and legal problems. Furthermore, because Switzerland sits at the crossroads of three major linguistic cultures, a multicultural approach to running public and para-public institutions.

It four main disciplines: social and cultural anthropology, social policy, social psychology and sociology. The degree course follows a largely interdisciplinary approach and strives to explain both the general functioning of societies and their diversity. Studies in the field of social science provide the epistemological framework required to understand the social environments in which individuals live and develop. They also lead to analysis of the representations and practices of individuals in relation to their social living conditions from the perspectives of culture, eco and politics.
