U-Multirank's unique 'Sunburst chart' gives an illustration of a university's performance profile across the five U-Multirank dimensions. These are indicated in different colours. For instance, the teaching and learning dimension is symbolised by the colour green. Each 'sunray' represents one of the thirty plus U-Multirank indicators. The longer the ray, the better the performance of an institution on the selected indicator: a full-length ray stands for 'top group' performance, whereas a short ray means 'weak' performance. A missing sunray indicates that the specific data indicator is not available. An institution's performance in an indicator can be identified by moving the cursor over the rays. A key guard for the sunburst chart is provided here .

Practical teaching through modern special laboratories distinguishes the department. The department and the teaching are further developed with regard to the needs of the region and the future topics in economy and society. Among other things, students should be prepared for the challenge of digitalisation in the best possible way. The use of diverse forms of teaching and learning with the help of digitalisation as well as a competence-oriented design of teaching is implemented in the department. In addition, freedom is given for self-designed studies (elective courses).

It is a practice-oriented degree program that also emphasizes involvement in research and development. This is ensured by professors who regularly go into research and industry semesters and conduct research. The practical relevance is demonstrated by the many projects that supplement the material in parallel to the lectures and thus result in consolidation. The program has modern computer laboratories. Within the framework of elective courses, students have the opportunity to focus on their personal preferences.

The Master's degree is consecutive and enables graduates to solve difficult problems in computer science on their own. A mixture of lectures and projects (both lecture-related and lecture-overlapping) ensures both acquisition of knowledge and formation of competencies. The choice of emphasis is independent of the bachelor's emphasis. The program can be started in summer and winter semester.

A special feature of the program is the so-called competence area. Depending on the bachelor's degree with which the study is taken up, the competence area must be chosen. Two lectures from the master program of Aalen University have to be attended, which are typical for the application of machine learning methods in this area. In this way, students come into contact with applications from their later professional life very early on. Ethical and social aspects are also given special attention.

In Industrial Engineering, the programs all offer a high praxis-orientation to enable our graduates to succeed at work. To ensure high quality, the programs attach great importance to the developments in the STEM field and favours intense and deep learning through working on industry-driven projects in small groups. The resulting high degree of individualized feedback enables our students to have a deeper operational understanding of the industry issues and also better able to choose their field of specialization from a wide variety of electives.

The master aims for praxis relevance and comprised of three specializations – industrial engineering, business administration & marketing, general management, which then can be combined for individualized study program for each student under the close supervision of industry-experienced teaching staff. Modern teaching forms and content, e.g. data management/security and industry 4.0, strengthen this approach. Thus, taken together, the graduates are prepared for an increasingly complex market.

The bachelor combines a solid qualification in engineering and economics with many industry projects, excursions and theses. This ensures professional readiness of our graduates and increases the likelihood of their professional success. Modern content, e.g. e-mobility and industry 4.0, and teaching models enable the students to develop their professional competences as well as their social ones. The latter goal is realized by small semester class and project group size. This creates a pedagogical environment in which capacity for teamwork is more than just a word.
