U-Multirank's unique 'Sunburst chart' gives an illustration of a university's performance profile across the five U-Multirank dimensions. These are indicated in different colours. For instance, the teaching and learning dimension is symbolised by the colour green. Each 'sunray' represents one of the thirty plus U-Multirank indicators. The longer the ray, the better the performance of an institution on the selected indicator: a full-length ray stands for 'top group' performance, whereas a short ray means 'weak' performance. A missing sunray indicates that the specific data indicator is not available. An institution's performance in an indicator can be identified by moving the cursor over the rays. A key guard for the sunburst chart is provided here .

The research at the Department of Chemistry is unique in virtue of its diversity, interdisciplinarity, and collegiality. Our focus areas are polymers, biomolecules, colloidal materials, functional catalysis design, and novel natural substance synthesis. We have also earned an international reputation for developing methods of spectroscopic structure analysis. Our interdisciplinary orientation manifests in large cooperative projects (e.g., CRC 1357 Microplastic) and the bundling of expertise in Key Labs and various research centers.

In close combination of theoretical and practical work, media science and computer science concepts and methods are taught in order to understand computer games in their socio-cultural significance as well as in their technical nature, to classify them critically and to actively participate in shaping them. Historical, aesthetic and technical dimensions of computer games are explored in-depth in order to design new game concepts with that this background in mind and to fathom the potential of the medium.

The goal of the program is a research-oriented study. On the basis of a broad technical knowledge that is deepened in selected sub-areas, the analytical, creative and constructive skills for developing and expanding hard- and software system are taught and promoted. The study program is characterized above all by the following two specific features: a bilingual education in English and German technical and business language for foreign and German students and a project-oriented work in several specialization areas.

Basic competencies in both practical and theoretical computer science are taught. A high proportion of elective modules also provides sufficient opportunity for in-depth study. The range of courses in computer science is supplemented by courses in mathematics, in an application subject as well as in general studies. Primarily, the terminology and methodology of an application subject are taught so that computer scientists acquire general competencies in application-related work that are transferable to other application areas.

A special feature of the program is an interdisciplinary orientation with the alternative focus areas or application subjects: Bioinformatics (informatics principles and applications of storage, processing and organization of biological data), Engineering Informatics (informatics methods in the development of technical systems) and Environmental Informatics (modeling, simulation and analysis of ecosystems). In this context, the application subject has a higher priority than is typically given to a classical minor in computer science courses.

The B.Sc. in Physics offers a broad background in Physics and builds the basis for studying in the M.Sc. in Physics or M.Sc. in Astrophysics. Lectures on experimental and theoretical physics and on Mathematics are part of the curriculum as well as lab-courses. A large fraction of the exams is not graded, i.e. these exams are pass or fail only. Oral exams about topics from several lectures document the understanding of concepts taught during different courses.
